Our History
Prior to its opening in the year 2000, a lot of research and planning needed to be done in order to make the successful company that now exists. It all began with Jean Jacque Grenier, the idea behind the company, who was searching feverishly for a partner to open up the shipping agency that he had been planning for. He already had other agencies in West Africa and France, so he needed to find somebody in Sierra Leone who would be a good partner in his new agency that would primarily serve Torm lines.
Mr. Jean's representative, Mr. Patrick, met the current partner by coincidence, while he was at the port having trouble with the immigration officials. Mr. Bazzy was present at the port and when he saw Mr. Patrick in distress he approached the officials and helped solve the problem. Afterward the two began talking and Mr. Patrick was informed of all the good relationships Mr.Bazzy had with all the officials in Freetown, so he began to consider him for the position of partner. After making his decision, Mr. Patrick offered Mr. Bazzy the position, and he became the new partner of AMA Ltd.
In the beginning the agency was simply serving Torm Line vessels, but after it was bought by the Maersk lines it began serving Ecomarine International vessels and Break Bulk vessels. In 2004 the agency adopted the position of being agents of LEOCEM, the local cement factory, and took on the jobs of clearing and forwarding, as well as handling incoming vessels for the company.
In recent years we have also become agents of Seaboard West Africa, the local flour mill, as well as began handling exports of rutile and bauxite and more than 50% of incoming tramp vessels of bagged cargo and rice.
